哎呀! Scholarships, homework, and accidental naps..

Today was another no-class day, and I did fairly well! I've finished most of my homework (just got some Chinese to do) and worked really hard on my CLS essays. I went to the writing center on campus to get them reviewed. I'm working with Professor Don Moore, and he is really really nice! We reviewed my essays today, I'm going to go back Thursday to finalize them for the workshop on Friday, and then go back Tuesday of next week to finalize the essays. After that, I'll send out the personal statement to career services, and then all of them to the study abroad office, and then I'll probably schedule a last meeting with Prof. Moore to finalize it all. Then I can submit them!

I'll get there!!!!
I'm also thinking about my recommendation letters again... I'm pretty sure I'm going to get one from Mr. Coons, my teacher/counselor from my first China trip, but the second? I'm thinking of switching from my Management teacher to my Intercultural Communications teacher. I'm going to swing by her office hours tomorrow, but since we just received grades on our essays, there might be a lot of people there to talk about their grades, and I don't want to be too late to the honors student council meeting.

So to-do list for tomorrow:

  1. Talk to Dr. Hendrix about CLS and recommendation
  2. Work on CLS essays
  3. Work on project for MGMT class (due monday)
  4. Work on JPN project
  5. Go to Honors in free time to talk about stuff I'll miss at the meeting
I feel like this right llama right now.

梅西加油!!!Time to buck up or shut up!

Steve Irwin enjoys his spot. I moved my POP figures to the above mini fridge until I find a nice spot for them.
So this morning was okay. Management class was a lil rough. We had to do a short on-the-spur presentation so that was.. eh... I made a 14/15 on my Japanese test though, and a 15/15 on my oral quiz. So I've got that goin' for me which is nice.
Ahhhh, honors hall. A good place to work, a better place to eat, and a great place for a nap.
I had a couple hours to do nothing so I ate some lunch, went to honors hall, and hung out until my next class, Intercultural Communications.
The infamous paper, with my exam behind it.. that is a 95! woooo!
In which I read my paper in front of the whole class... The professor picked out two "exemplary" papers to read to the class, as examples of what a research paper for Intercultural Communications should be like. I don't think I looked up from the podium (we had to read it at the podium!!! ugh) more than twice. A bit embarrassing, but it's nice the professor liked my paper.
Construction across from my apartment goes swimmingly and provides great morning entertainment while I eat my breakfast.
Now I'm working on some essays for my CLS application.. I have several more to do before I head to the writing center tomorrow to get them proofed... Time to buckle down and write! I'm actually a lot less excited about writing than I sound....

昨天我开车回家。今天我来孟菲斯。虽然我很累,可是我得做功课。

I started this weekend off with a trip home to see mom! We went shopping and played cards. It was a really nice break from school. I wish I could have stayed longer and I'm so glad fall break is coming up! I think if it were any farther away I would go crazy.
Delilah was glad to see me too, but for some reason i got the feeling she was more glad about this package...
I packed all my goodies into my car and went home today. It was a long drive because I didn't finish my coffee and didn't feel as awake as I did before. But my plant and I made it back to Memphis!
His name is Steve Irwin.
So now I'm doing homework. I have a bad habit of leaving all my work till Sunday. But luckily this week I have a very light homework load. I just have to scan in an assignment and work on some Japanese, on top of studying for Chinese and Intercultural Communications.

Kickball Tournament, DnD, and Heading Home

At least the sky looked really pretty!!
Not gonna lie, Friday was a struggle! I felt like I didn't get enough sleep and we had the kickball tournament that day. So everything was super stressed!
These were my favorite. SOOO pretty.
The Kickball Tournament did go really well. we raised over 250$ for St. Jude. I was hoping for more, but we only had 5-6 teams. Oh well.
Winding down after their games... moving on to soccer as that is their better sport.
Honors Students hanging out. They were the best part about this, they really brought life to the tourney!
Usually he lays on my backpack, but that seat was taken... He's also a fan of laps.
Later, at DnD, Tigg showed interest in my tablet case. DnD is really fun, but when some players take it too seriously, it gets stressful. Two guys have already been voted out by the group, survivor style. One ripped up his character sheet in front of the DM (the audacity!! the cardinal rule broken!!!) and the other just got really upset whenever things didn't go quite his way, which was a lot. For the DnD fans out there...
SO. MUCH. FOOD.
I went home today and went out to lunch with Mom at Dyersburg's newest Japanese place... Sake. This whole plate ("bento box") was like seven dollars. Crazy low prices! But the quality wasn't that great.
I about died eating it. :(
I even tried the sushi... with the same results as previous attempts.

Update on Fairs/Thursday Laziness

morning cuteness... because my 8AM was cancelled.
Pictures from yesterday's fairs. This first one shows a more professional outfit for me. Usually I'm just in jeans and a t-shirt, or if it's an extra lazy day, pajama-level clothes! I'm going home this weekend to pick up some cooler weather wear and switch out someone of my summer dresses.
I said I'd post this on twitter for them but I didn't... whoops.
This was the best part about the Fogelman fair, to be honest.
I really like that tiny lil helmet. So fun to play with.
And the goodies! You can see a lot of the stuff I got. Fed-Ex (!!!), International paper, Barnhart (that was more for Nathan) and their squishy helmet stress-toy, Peace Corps paper and bag, and some Fogelman professional program fliers.

~

Today I don't have class so it's been lazy. I struggle with Tuesdays and Thursday because while I should use them to maximize study, I often just get really, really lazy. Today I have gotten some work done so there has been some winning there. I'm watching League of Legends Worlds Day 1 in another tab while I work. LoL is a MOBA (Arena-based multiplayer game) that I've been getting into, and Worlds is their International Finals competition. I'm pretty sure it's already over, but since it was in Taipei, I was never really awake to watch it.

There's also a Chinese Language Club meeting today. I enjoy Chinese and would really enjoy the club, but it feels like we don't do much. I wish there was a way I could help plan more events, but I'm not sure how to stick my foot in the door!

I'm also planning more events for Honors Student Council. Our kickball tournament to raise money for St. Jude is tomorrow (AHHHHHHHHHH), we have a bake-sale planned for October (ahhhh), and I'm helping a freshman plan his first event! (Yay!)

That's pretty much all for today. I think I'm going to go make a pizza.

Busy Day... 星期三太忙了!!!

Wednesdays are always my busiest day. I have class from nine to eleven thirty and from just about two to four. Then I have honors student council meetings.

What made this particular Wednesday so exhausting was the fact that I accidentally spent two hours working on a puzzle the night before (whoops) got up early to study (eek) for two tests (eww) and went to not one but two fairs!

The first was a Fogelman Business School fair, and it was very nice, except for the International Business booth, which was very antagonistic against my own Asian Studies and International Trade major. The women at the table didn't believe I was a business student and I couldn't convince her. Then they said their major was better than mine.

Ugh.

But the second fair was fun! It was a career and internship fair. I brought Nathan with me so he could look at some summer internships. The tables I hit up were Fed-Ex Services, International Paper, and the Peace Corps. Fed-Ex is my dream internship! The nice lady working their table said my major fit right in. She said the internships are really nice there and it's a great Memphis-based international company. Nathan found a few places he was interested in too!!

Since I finally got the latest rounds of tests out of the way, I can start working on my Critical Language Scholarship application. I've got to write up those essays ASAP-- I've got an appointment next week to get them reviewed!

Ah, that reminds me, I have to make an advising appointment as well.... Ah, college life.
